Public Darkroom (shared)

Flat Rate: $13/hr
Members: $10/hr and free film developing must be made in advance.

The public darkroom accomodates up to four persons at a time for the purposes of printing and processing. It is fully stocked with equipment that can handle all formats: from 35mm to 4x5 for film processing and printing/print developing of all sizes up to 20 x 24. Printing is fiber base or resin coated. Paper is also available per package or per sheet in some cases, as is 'exotic' chemistry. If you have chemistry or pape special needs, please let us know in advance so we can accomodate you.

Special Projects Darkroom (private)

Members: $25/hour*

Exposing Room: showing modified Devere 4 x 5 Enlarger and drop-down table. Special deep-red indirect (in cove) safelighting is safe for all light-sensitive papers/materials. Special paints and materials prevent possiblity of material fogging.

Our exposing room is desgined for special projects. The enlarger and vacuum easel/table easel are built on a monolithic seismic pier that is literally rock solid; no matter what's going on outside, it guarantees absolute sharpness, even for extreme magnifications of mural prints. The Special Projects Darkroom has ample storage for all papers and equipment, as well as connections for internet, telephone and auxiliary power. The specially built vacuum easel floor holds papers up to 42 x 60 in tightly in place even during the longest of exposures. Exlusive features of the Special Projects Darkroom include:

DIGITAL NEGATIVES FOR CONTACT PRINTING

If prepped to our specifications, digital files can be converted to a digital negative for contact printing. One of our technicians will output it for you for a nominal fee. All files must be transferred via FTP to our server. Only TIFF format accpeted and no larger than 20 Mb. Tthis is very large for a digital negative in 1-bit bitmap format TIFF file. A 13 x 19 inch print is around 2.65 Mb! See also: Workshops.

HIGH END PHOTOGRAPHIC FACILITIES

Upon special arrangement, studio space and equipment are available for use by approved applicants only. Camera equipment includes Sinar-Bron, Hasselblad, Speedotron, etc.
