Alan Storey
Editioned Works

from the Climatic Drawing Machine
Each of the drawings below is a plate editioned from the original drawing created by his 'Climatic Drawing Machine' located in Toronto, Canada at the exterior of the Power Plant Gallery on the shore of Lake Ontario. These drawings are 'self-drawn', using only the wind. The paper and it's drum (which holds the paper) is oriented by the direction of prevailing wind... the wind velocity (speed) moves the drum downwards as it increases - and so lines traced or tracked 'higher up' on the paper represent a stronger wind (those at the top are the strongest of course).

This piece is a fascinating study in environmental interaction between man and 'machine' - in this case climate drives the drawing. For more information about the artist and his work (including this one) - please click here.

These works have been editioned from the original master drawing at a very level of detail  - using the same technique used to generate lithographic plates to transfer onto silicon wafers to receive circuit patterns. The resulting print is one of (dare we say) shocking finesse that will easily bear the scrutiny of a high power magnifier. The incredible detail resulting from his 'Climatic Drawing Machine' apparatus is revealed with no loss of detail in smaller sizes (originals are approximately 96" or 8 feet in length).

Works shown framed, above. None of the items listed above include framing - however we are able to provide it for all but the largest size unless you are local (in which case it can be picked up) but due to the prohibitive cost of shipping and crating, it is far more cost effective to have works framed at the customer's end.
